TMCC's 2023 Commencement

Skills Certificate (SC)

Skills certificates are focused, short-term programs designed to provide training for entry-level positions or career advancement. These certificates may be part of a pathway leading to a Certificate of Achievement or associate degree and may prepare students to take state, national, and/or industry-recognized certification or licensing examinations. Please note that while skills certificate programs provide this instruction and training, TMCC does not guarantee that a student will pass the intended certification or licensing exam. Skills certificates are not financial aid-eligible and not found in the drop-down list of majors in the college application for admission

Certificate of Achievement (CoA)

Certificates of Achievement are shorter programs than associate degrees and have both technical training and general education requirements that are designed to provide students with the skills needed to compete successfully in a career field.  These certificates may be part of a pathway leading to an associate degree.

Associate of Applied Science (AAS)

AAS degrees are typically a two-year, technical degree for students who want to start a career immediately following graduation. Examples include the AAS Culinary, AAS Computer Information Technology, AAS Graphic Communications, and AAS Radiologic Technology. These degrees may transfer to a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree within  the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) or to other colleges or universities outside of NSHE.

Associate of Arts (AA) and Associate of Science (AS)

AA and AS degrees are designed for students who plan to transfer to a 4-year college or university and complete a bachelor’s degree. Completion of an AA or AS automatically fulfills the lower-division general education requirements at any of the colleges and universities in the Nevada System of Higher Education.  Without completing the AA or AS, receiving institutions decide on a class by class basis which to accept for transfer, so it is the student’s best interest to complete their AA or AS degree. Students planning to transfer should look at the 4-year college/university requirements, including any formal transfer agreements between TMCC and that college/university.

Bachelor's Degrees

The Bachelor of Science (BS), Bachelor of Architecture (BArch), and the Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree programs offered at TMCC are designed to grow professional skills and respond to the demand for highly technical professionals in the workplace.  Bachelor's degrees contain a minimum of 30 upper-division units that must be earned at TMCC.

Associate of General Studies (AGS)

The AGS is designed for students who desire a well-rounded education. Some courses used towards the AGS may not transfer.

Certificate of Achievement, General Studies

The Certificate of Achievement-General Studies is a certificate within the AGS degree. Some courses used towards this certificate may not transfer.
