MICR 100 - Microbes and Society Units: 3

This course offers an exploration into the nature of microorganisms, introducing microbial diversity, the importance of microorganisms to the biosphere, and their roles in human health and disease. Major topics include microbial growth and control, infectious disease and public health, and applications in biotechnology, food production, and bioremediation. By integrating theoretical knowledge with hands-on laboratory experience, this course aims to develop an understanding of microbiology and its applications in science and industry. Designed as a general education, non-majors course. Three hours of lecture per week and four labs per semester.

MICR 276A - Introduction to Microbiology Units: 3

A lecture course introducing microbial structure, physiology, genetics, virology, and environmental microbiology. The course will also reinforce general evolutionary knowledge and include microbial evolution.

Enrollment Requirements: Prerequisite: CHEM 121 or CHEM 201 (Taught at other NSHE Institutions); BIOL 190A; BIOL 190L, co-requisite MICR 276L.

MICR 276L - Introduction to Microbiology Laboratory Units: 2

A comprehensive microbiology laboratory introduction to include basic microbiological techniques, experimental design, and data collection and analysis.

Enrollment Requirements: Co-requisite: MICR 276A.
