Program Description

The Associate of Arts, Psychology, B.S. Track is designed as a university transfer program that substantially meets the requirements for the first two years of study for the B.S. in Psychology at UNR. The degree requirements include a well-balanced general education curriculum. Specific curriculum provides students with major concepts, theoretical perspectives and empirical findings in Psychology. In addition, students will come to understand and apply basic research and statistical methods in Psychology.

The Associate of Arts, Psychology, B.S. Track is a good fit for students who see graduate study in Psychology, Psychiatry, or a career in Behavior Analysis in their future. 

Students requiring clarification on whether to follow a course of study leading towards a B.A. or B.S. in Psychology at UNR, or those wishing to transfer to any other baccalaureate program, should work closely with TMCC advisors and advisors at the institution of transfer to obtain recommended courses.

AA/AS degrees are designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university.  

To earn an AA/AS degree, students must:

  1. Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 (see requirements for graduation.)
  2. Complete a minimum of 15 units within the college.
  3. Satisfy General Education requirements for the AA/AS.
  4. Have no financial or library obligation to the college.

Students completing the degree will:

  • PO1: Define and identify key concepts, principles and theories in psychology. 
  • PO2: Describe and evaluate basic research methods used by psychologists; including their respective advantages and disadvantages.
  • PO3: Identify aspects of individual or cultural diversity and the interpersonal challenges that can result from diversity and context. 
  • PO4: Communicate ideas, supported by scholarly works, which reflect knowledge of basic psychological concepts and principles.
